  Long-Time Bethelites Organizing To Leave Headquarters!

  It has got to be a hoax or they are extremely naive. I don't doubt there are quite a few old witness that wake up one day and realize the WT isn't the truth and that they have wasted their lives for nothing. But this idea of trying to sell three book that would have a very limited audience seems a little goofy to me. Also I wonder how long could they do this without getting caught and kicked out?

  I doubt the veracity of the site but is does make you wonder how many old dubs there are in a similar position. I remember Bill Cetnar spoke of an old man that was there at Bethel when he was there. He said this person had serve there most of his life. As he got old an senile he began swearing out loud. When he couldn't stop they through him out on the street with nothing for all his years of service. The Watchtower only takes care of old workers if they accept and do everything they are told. Do witness every think about the fact that they wouldn't get Social Security if the government was as harsh and mean spirited as the Watchtower.

  It's very hot out there on the Mojave desert. You can easily fry an egg on a rock or a brain in a head if not properly protected from the heat.

  Why do people feel they need religion in their life ???

  after growing up a jw all my life, i have no clue why people would want to be part of any religion.. i don't get the mormon stuff.

  i don't understand the catholic faith.

  i really don't understand the muslim beliefs and all their levels and the suicide bombers.

  Why do some people feel the need not to have religion in their life? Either you get it or you don't. You can't force someone to believe that there is a purpose to life. By the same token you can't force someone to believe that there isn't one. You don't have to be stupid to believe in God and you don't have to be stupid not to. There are smart people and stupid people on both sides of the argument. I think the trick is to be respectful of someones belief or lack there of.

  My story - part One.

  i have never posted my story on jwd and it was only recently that it occured to me that i should really make more of an effort to; here is the first part....sorry if its longwinded.... .

  i was brought up in the borg from the age of 18 months old and as you can understand i have known little else.

  previous to being in the truth my mother was an unwanted child and beaten by her mother, sure enough she fell into an abusive relationship with my father which left her with minus zero confidence and on the verge of a nervous breakdown; apparently my mum was considering throwing us both off a railway bridge she was that depressed and to her there was no point in living.

  Looking forward to what I hope will be a happy ending begining in part 2.

  With all the nice things we could export to the UK what do we wind up sending? Our wierd religions like the Watchtower and Mormonism. Your customs agents really have do a better job.

  The churches I attend don't allow small children in the adult services. They have things for kids based on their age. Nor do you see beating taking place. My sister teaches small children a her church while the parents are in the adult service. She is always buying toys and snacks for them. What a difference. I'm really sorry for any part I had in screwing kids up when I was a JW.

  I agree with how you are handling your mom. There seems to be some people that would be worse off if they found out what a load of crap the WT teaches. Time will tell if this is the case with your mom. Sometimes the people who you least expect to wake up surprise you.

  Yet another "My Story"

  my story: and i apologize in advance for the long post.. i was born to special pio parents and i attended my first meeting when i was 6 days old, which was unusual in the 50s and 60s because babies were usually quarantined for the first month or so.

  my mother had a poor childhood and was often placed with uncaring relatives which served as foster homes.

  my father was raised in a single parent home by his divorced mother who was looking for answers.

  Thank you for posting your story. It makes me remember the kids I knew that were being raised in the "truth". I wonder how much baggage they are carrying around with them now.

  By the way I have the whole Black Adder series including "Back and Forth" the lattest one. I love Red Dwarf and Hitchhickers Guide to the Galaxy. I have lots of other British comedies on vhs and dvd.

  i must say, i never thought that i would see the day when i would find a site about disillusioned (mostly) jehovah's witnesses, but low and behold...one truly exists.

  first let me start off by saying thank you to the creators of this site, and i'll have you know that i've been lurking for several days now and i am just finding the time to finally log on.

  i've been a member of the borg for over 20 years now, been baptised for about 14 of those years and now i find myself in the most unusual of places.

  Many times I will see vistors come into the hall, nad leave without one person coming over to make them feel welcome.

  sounds like a lucky break for them

  I think they may be suspicious of the motives of anyone who just wanders in the hall without being brought there by someone. They can be a paranoid lot.

  When I first left the WT I went to quite a few different churches just to see what they were like. I did find it interesting that I wasn't viewed with suspicion even when I told the I used to be a JW. The whole vibe felt different. I didn't feel like I was being watched.

  I live pretty close to Vegas and might be able to go to that one.

  Increase ranks 10 fold

  here's my take on how the society could increase it's ranks 10x.. start from scratch and go back to bible basics.. eliminate speculation.

  every last thing in life does not need a rule on it.

  recognize that there is a grey area.. cut meetings down to sunday public talk.

  I agree with your list of changes and here are few I would like to see implemented.

  Wet bar at the back of the KH. (Closed during the service of course)

  Comedy night. If an elder couldn't come up with anything funny to say he could just give a regular public talk in his underwear.

  You mentioned golf. Allowing witnesses to turn in their golf score card as an acceptable alternative to their field service time card.

  Book study to include the Harry Potter series.

  Allow witness to sell other products when going door to door........So your taking the Watchtower and 2 bottles of the Super Gunge Remover . That I'll be $ 29.50.

  GIVE A GOOD WITNESS---------------

  "give a good witness" today i made an effort to wave to my neighbour, not because i particularly wanted to or like him, but had a feeling i needed to "prove how nice i was or to give a good witness" .

  habits die hard, this follows on from the guilt thread.

  i still feel that *i put on a front, i cant be myself, in case i do or say something that could bring reproach, what the hell on i dont know i havent been to a meeting for over a year no one here knows i was a witness.

  A lot of it is just the years of conditioning. I remember a thought crossing my mind when I first left that went something like this. Shouldn't I be out telling people something. Some sort of postive message. It was fleeting but I still remember feeling that way. Most people will like you better if they see you have a normal range of emotions rather than being some grinning zombie.
